Design and Performance of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited

We test-drove the “refreshed” 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited in sunny Arizona. This midsize sedan offers a range of features.

Performance

  • The Sonata Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter I-4 gasoline engine and a 51-kW electric motor, producing 192 horsepower. This unique combination not only delivers impressive power but also enhances fuel efficiency. The car is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, which provides the Sonata with a sportier ride, good acceleration, and responsive steering without overly compromising the ride.

Features

The Limited Hybrid trim is a luxurious haven. It boasts leather seats that envelop you in comfort, a Bose premium audio system that immerses you in a concert-like experience, Remote Smart Parking Assist for added convenience, and a navigation system to guide you on your journey. Additionally, it comes with a 12V power outlet, Bluetooth streaming audio, cruise control, and a rear window defroster for your comfort and convenience.

  • Fuel efficiency

The Sonata Hybrid is a smart choice for the financially savvy. It delivers an impressive 44 miles per gallon in the city and 51 miles per gallon on the highway, making it a fuel-efficient companion for your daily commute or long road trips. With a 13.2-gallon fuel tank, you’ll make fewer stops at the pump, saving time and money.

  • Design

While not a complete redesign, the Sonata gets notably bolder looks for 2024, giving it a modern and trendy appeal.

The front end dramatically changes thanks to a much more aggressive-looking black mesh grille.  Also new is an integrated, seamless horizon lamp with wide-set hidden LED headlights that stretch across the front end.  Hyundai says it’s designed to convey a more futuristic feel. The tail end makes a statement, too, with new high-tech-looking H-lights and twin-tip single chrome exhaust.  Headlights, daytime running lights, and taillights are all LED.

Since we’re not discussing a complete redesign, the mid-sized sedan retains its overall shape and wide, low-slung, road-hugging stance (we’re talking just 5.3 ground clearance).

Powertrain

One thing that has yet to change is Sonata’s hybrid performance. It remains a powertrain focused on efficiency. Its 2.0-liter 4-cylinder hybrid engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, delivering 192 horsepower. This powertrain is designed to balance performance and fuel efficiency, making it an excellent choice for daily commuting and long road trips.

Roomy Interior

The 2024 Sonata’s unique design sets it apart from other midsize sedans. It has a full-width headlight bar and a lower grille, giving it a sleek and modern look. The interior is equally impressive, featuring a single curved display with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone connectivity. The roomy interior provides ample space for passengers and cargo, making it ideal for long drives and family trips.

When you open the door of this spacious midsize SUV, you’ll notice some significant changes. The cabin now features a “floating theme” similar to other Hyundai models.

The top-of-the-line Limited model offers the best interior with the most features. I liked the two-tone Dark Gray/Gray interior and the comfortable leather-trimmed power front seats. The driver’s seat offers 8-way power adjustment, and the passenger’s seat has 4-way power. Both seats are heated and ventilated and have great headrests.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited may not excite you when driving, but it’s lively enough to get you to your Barre class on time and comfortable for a family road trip.
